Most common question asked to Dentist is that what should be done in regular basis to maintain oral hygiene. So in this blog I will explain some of the major causes of dental problems and how to maintain oral hygiene?
Have a look on causes for dental problem:
Poor oral hygiene
Mal-alignment of teeth (Crowding of teeth)
Xerostomia (Less saliva secretion)
Genetics
Eating Habits (more sugar in-take, tobacco, and smoking)
All the above leads to dental problem.
To avoid dental problems we have to maintain good oral hygiene. For that brushing two times in a day, not more than 2-3 minutes, is required. For bad mouth odor, mouthwash can be used.
For mal-alignment of teeth one should seek orthodontic treatment which reduces calculus depositions and ultimately reduces chances of gums and bone problem of jaw. Regular Scaling (cleaning of teeth) is also advisable.
Genetics also play a role in teeth caries and in gums problem. Patients should go for a regular checkup.
Eating habits play a major role in oral hygiene. Patients with habits of smoking and tobacco are prone to getting gum problems, staining and calculus depositions in teeth, which can also cause oral cancer.
Those who have sweet tooth must control their sugar intake which can lead to more cavities.
Dental caries form through an overtime complex interaction between acid-producing bacteria and fermentable carbohydrates, and many host factors including teeth and saliva.
In this diagram, you can see the effect of combining bacteria and sugar. Time also plays an important role: More time you give to the bacteria, more would be the cavity formation.
Always remember Time can heal anything but not dental caries.
